The Canadian creeks. Wildcat Bluff. Rock Creek. A (urban/disturbed) playa.
(Landscape Scale)
A look at the Llano – Climate, culture, geophysics, hydrologic
What features or functions are significant? What opportunities, when & where
Let’s talk watersheds & drainages.
Overview of main rivers, role of the Llano as headwaters of Texas (intrastate) rivers. Focus to Canadian because it’s complex geology, the only river to cross the Great Plains and erode into and thru the geology comprising the High Plains Aquifer System.
Geodiversity – the Canadian River & Lake Meredith

Bit more on watersheds regionally? Exhausted springs & seeps, most dried by 1970s..
Shift scale to project level, move to presentation on Ogallala Life Pilot Projects – primarily constructing natural infrastructure in dryland streams (NIDS).
Discuss our work here on the Southern High Plains.
Kritser Creeks / N. Bank of the Canadian River Valley, upstream from Meredith
Wildcat Bluff
TXN CW Video(s)
Mission Ranch
Rock Creek, Johnson Park
“Best” opportunity sites – Red Deer, White Deer…
Discuss features & functions using cycling & budget framing.
Q. WHY NIDS, HERE?
available to us
low hanging fruit
biggest bang for buck
bc we want demonstrable successes
LT PBR
This is what we’ve done, and why. Demonstrated just a few landscape rehydration technologies (appropriate to our place). Lots more. And more places besides.
Teaser before next Module, quick look at representational (urban modified) playa wetlands (the Greenways?)
& stormwater infrastructure (Medi Park).
Current issues.
Green infrastructure alternatives.
Recap & thoughts on scale.
Infrastructure, because our overriding survival interest is for water security. Coheres to that of the bioregion, because goal is to better retain & regulate water/nutrients/sediment/thermal… via improving agroecologic function.
